Friday Feel Better Challenge – Learning How to Heal When Words Hurt
Your Feel Better Challenge for this week is to catch yourself when you feel hurt by the words of others. Make it a game. Try to find 3 times today that someone’s words cause your emotional meter to rise. You’ll have to stay focused, though.
Listen carefully to the words of others and stay in tune with how your body reacts to them. Check to see if someone’s words make you feel:
- Angry
- Sad
- Frustrated (they’re not listening to you)
- Stupid (everyone, but you, understands this)
- Belittled (you are so beneath them)
- Not Valued (your thoughts and feelings don’t matter)
- Unworthy (you don’t belong because of something you’ve done)
- Disrespected
- Unloved
Try to record at least 3 times today when this happens. Now, refer back to the 5 questions in How to Heal When Words Hurt to see how you can restore that relationship.
