Where is God When I Need a Miracle the Most?
I often say, “I’m tired of being sick and tired?” Sometimes it seems like God’s left me to fend for myself in this crazy world. I have faith he will provide, and I pray for what I need. But where is God when I need him most?
A story tells of a man sitting in his home as floodwaters came. Emergency workers arrived to help him, but he refused saying he trusted God.
The waters rose sending the man upstairs. A boat came by to offer help. But he repeated, “God will take care of me.”
As the waters rose higher, he climbed onto his roof. A helicopter came, and they pleaded with him. But he held firm in his faith.
Eventually, the flood consumed him.
As he entered heaven, he cried, “God, why didn’t you save me? I trusted you. Why did you let me drown?” God replied, “I sent a car, a boat, and a helicopter. All you had to do was get on board.”
God – Why Don’t You Help Me?
A similar story tells of a single mom who continually prayed to win the lottery, so she could provide for her family. Week after week she prayed, then lamented God’s lack of help. Finally, she cried out, “God, you see my family’s suffering. Why won’t you help us? I pray, but you don’t answer.” He quietly said, “Help me out here – buy a ticket.”
God Wants to Help You
Do you ever ask, “where is God when I need him?” Instead, ask yourself which one of these stories described you? The man refusing God’s repeated help, or the woman refusing to do her part?
God wants you to live a peaceful life, even during a crisis. He wants to meet your needs and bless you. So if you wonder how you can feel that peace or receive those blessings, it’s simple – participate!
What to Do While Waiting for Your Miracle
Here are 3 actions to take while waiting for your miracle.
Combine Faith with Action. What can you do while waiting for God to provide? Are you waiting or expecting? For example, think about a pregnant mom. Does she wait for the baby, doing nothing for nine months, or does she actively prepare for its arrival?
James 2:14-22 reminds us, “Faith by itself isn’t enough… his (Abraham’s) faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete.”
You’re Not Alone! Accept Help. When people offer to help, take it. When they ask what’s wrong, tell them. And if no one offers or asks, speak up. People can’t meet your needs when they don’t know you have them. If you don’t know who to ask, use these helpful resources.
Make Your Needs a Priority. It’s not selfish, it’s short-term self-preservation. Focus on your own needs with these self-care tips. Start by simplifying your life. Remove what doesn’t get you closer to the other side of your current situation. Believe me, it will all be waiting when you’re ready to dive back in.
Not Magic – Action
Sorry, but there’s no magic pill. The only way out is through complete faith combined with laser-focused action. God can work alone, but He prefers not to. And he wants to bless you, but blessings come after action, so do your part. Get in that car. Buy that lottery ticket! And quit waiting for a miracle. Expect one!
